3. Lunch time is staggared, so these lessons will include the actual lunch times.
4. Sports students leave by way of the hallway after school to go to sports. All other students use the sidewalk area.

Student Directions:
MOTT: My Own Topic Time
Read in your own book. Use two of the reading strategies using the graphic organizer provided. Be specific with evidence (30 read/ 10 write--a) reading strategies and b) MOTT notes).
Language of Literature (Green Texts)
Please turn to pages R134-135 in your reading text to review the writing pattern of sequence. Writing partterns follow certain formats and use certain vocabulary.
Independently: Read R134 for directions, information, and questions on reading/writing to understand sequence. Page R135 is the text to read to answer the questions.
After reading, discuss responses in your reading groups. As a group, decide on a gist statement of what you have learned. Each person write it on your papers. Turn in.

A. Power Writing-- 2 minutes each three times
B. Grammar: Blue Write Source -- p. 420 Subject Verb Agreement; Do practice.
C. Notebooks: N6 Fierce Wonderings -- follow lesson provided with sample on back.
D. Students try in their own notebooks, or if no notebook on their own paper.
Student Directions:
A. Power Writing: Writing Fluency, Spelling
Write the following words on the chart stand by the door.
Sled blizzard zoom Hot cocoa snow suit friends
Rock pine tree laughter
Students may write on one of those topics or any public topic of their choice.
Directions to students (they know this; we power write almost daily):
1. Write for the time specified.
2. Keep writing. You get credit for the number of different words.
3. IF Stuck: repeat the last word written until new thoughts pop into your head (refer to Step 2)
4. Spelling: circle words you think are misspelled
5. Keep writing --you can switch topics
6. Use public thoughts.
Time students for two minutes, then:
7. Students stop when signaled to stop.
8. Students immediately count the number of words written.
9. Each student writes the date and number of words at the top of his/her paper.
10. Students record the number of words on the power writing sheet in their folders.
11. Students re-read one time to circle any words they THINK they have misspelled.
REPEAT the process (1-11) TWO MORE TIMES.
B. Grammar: Blue Write Source -- p. 586.3. and 420 Subject Verb Agreement; Do practice.
Directions:
- Ask students to please take out from their desks the Blue Write Source text books and open to page 586.3. Ask a student to read the section.
- Ask student to turn to page 420. Ask for volunteers to read sections. Discuss each one as a class. Students complete the practice section.
C. Notebooks: N6 Fierce Wonderings
Please find the N6 Notebook lesson page attached to these lessons. The topic is "Fierce Wonderings." Please follow the teacher directions on side one and handout the paper samples provided for page two and discuss with students as indicated in the directions.
D. Students try "Fierce Wonderings" in their own notebooks, or if no notebook on their own paper.
If time, students can share if they choose (partners or whole class).
